CAR NEWS: Volkswagen TDI owner? Here are your options

If you are one of the 105,000 Volkswagen TDI owners in Canada, you will be happy to know that as of April 28, you will finally be able to return your vehicle to Volkswagen, exchange it for another VW model, or wait until a repair is approved to make the emission system compliant with environmental standards.

You will also receive a cash payment that will vary between $ 5,100 and $ 8,000 depending on your TDI vehicle. Of course, all this is subject to different conditions, but overall this amounts to a generous offer that should make TDI owners quite happy.

The agreement with the Canadian courts concerns the following models:

  • Audi A3 – 2010 to 2013, 2015
  • Volkswagen Beetle – 2013 to 2015
  • Volkswagen Jetta – 2009 to 2015
  • Volkswagen Jetta Wagon – 2009
  • Volkswagen Golf – 2010 to 2013, 2015
  • Volkswagen Golf Wagon – 2010 to 2014
  • Volkswagen Golf Sportwagon – 2015
  • Volkswagen Passat – 2012 to 2015

There is no deal as of yet for 3.0-liter TDI V6 engine owners.

It is expected that the majority of affected owners will choose the buyback option. They will then receive the wholesale value established by the Canadian Black Book as of September 18, 2015. If you decide to exchange your vehicle, Volkswagen will give you the equivalent of the fair market value of the car in addition to paying the difference between this value and the wholesale value as of September 18, 2015.

You can get more details, verify the eligibility of your TDI vehicle, and find out what options are available to you by visiting www.vwcanadasettlement.ca.
