Now that GM’s revealed it’s V6 Duramax diesel torque figure of 460 lb.-ft., RAM upstages them with 480 lb of torque from its EcoDiesel V6.
There is no end in sight when it comes to the full-size pickup wars. Highest, most-capable, most-powerful, class-leading and more are all highly coveted claims for Ford, GM and RAM. This round belongs to the RAM 1500 EcoDiesel which boast the most torque at 480 lb.-ft.
Only a few weeks ago, GM announced their Duramax diesel engine’s output for the Chevy Silverado at 460 lb.-ft. At the time, it seemed like a considerable amount but it was only a matter of time before one of the other two ex-big-3 were to walk in with a larger amount.
Only a few weeks ago, Ford made their own announcement in regards to their Power Stroke diesel V6 in the F-150 which was that it will be offered through more trim lines.
Clearly, the full-size diesel war is on. The RAM’s 3.0-litre EcoDiesel V6 produces its 480 lb.-ft. of torque at 1,600 rpm, a 14% increase from the previous-generation EcoDiesel V-6. The horsepower figures also climbs 8% to 260 at 3,600 rpm. With this mill and the proper gear, the RAM will tow up to 5,697 kg (12,560 lb).
The 2020 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel goes on sale in the fourth quarter of 2019 with pricing announced at a later date. It is built at the Sterling Heights Assembly Plant (SHAP) in Sterling Heights, Michigan, while the EcoDiesel engine is produced at the FCA Cento facility in Ferrara, Italy.
