Tire pressure: an element that should not be overlooked

Your tires are the only point of contact between your car and the road. It therefore goes without saying that it is very important that your tires be in good condition. Your tires are extremely important in determining how your vehicle handles, its fuel economy, and its overall comfort. Once you have chosen tires that are properly adapted to the intended use of your vehicle, and you have made sure that they are not too worn out, you must check their pressure regularly in order to get the most out of them.

No question about it, it’s not enough to merely have good tires. To be effective, their pressure must be perfect.

“A poorly inflated tire will change the entire vehicle’s dynamics while increasing wear and tear. We must therefore take the time to check our tires’ pressure regularly using a quality gauge,” advises a representative of the service department at Lallier Kia de Laval.

Most of the time, a tire will be underinflated. This means the tire becomes softer and the contact surface becomes larger. In such a situation, friction will increase leading to increased tire wear and fuel consumption.

In the opposite case however, it is possible that the tire is overinflated. In such a case, the contact area is reduced between the tire and the road, and it is only the center of the tread that touches the road. If that happens, the agility of the car will be reduced and your tire will not wear down evenly.

We must therefore take the time to check the pressure of our tires regularly using a quality gauge. You can check the correct pressure using the information on the label that you’ll find inside the door frame, or in the owner’s handbook.
