2019 RAM 1500 at the 2018 North American International Auto Show

The new 2019 RAM 1500!

For 2019, RAM’s pulled out all the stops. While all-out capabilities are always high priority list, RAM’s taken their full-size truck one step further. Much like what they did with the new Jeep Wrangler, the RAM 1500 is a recent graduate of the School of Refinement.

The use of high-strength steel, and other materials, has done wonders for the truck. Not only is it up to 225 lbs. lighter than the previous RAM but the more rigid frame and all-new Frequency Response Damping (FRD) shocks improve comfort, durability and rigidity. In the process, the RAM’s maximum payload has increased to 2,300 lbs. while maximum trailer towing has risen to 12,750 lbs.

Returning powertrains for 2019 are the 3.6-liter V-6 and 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 engines. Both mills feature not only a new generation 8-speed automatic transmission but the brand’s mild hybrid technology called eTorque. This belt-driven motor generator not only enables the start/stop function but adds up to 90 lb.-ft. burst of torque to the V-6 and up to 130 lb.-ft. to the HEMI. As well, they are instrumental in helping increase fuel economy. The EcoDiesel V6 is earmarked to return for the 2019 calendar year.

The new RAM features 4” longer wheelbases for not only a deeper and more capacious bed, but larger more comfortable cabins. Technology-wise, the RAM inherits the 4th generation Uconnect system that can be accessed through an available 12” touchscreen. Luxury features abound as well and for audiophiles, a 19-speaker, 900-watt Harman Kardon audio system can be thrown in the mix.

If all goes to plan, we’ll get a chance to drive the new 2019 RAM 1500 sometime in March, just ahead of its introduction in early summer.
