Raising the sport and performance bar is something that Porsche’s done since the very beginning. The 911 was never going to be a supercar-beating sporty coupe! Its rear engine design was flawed from the start. Today, the 911 is one of the most decorated sports cars in the history of motorsports. Porsche’s at it again with the new 3rd generation Cayenne.
Whomever said that a truck couldn’t be driven on a track and tackle some would-be sports cars triggered something at Porsche. The challenge was readily accepted just over 15 years ago and here, at the 67th International Motor Show in Frankfurt, Porsche unveiled the new Cayenne Turbo.
This vehicle’s specifications and technology read like what you’d find on some of the world’s craziest hyper-cars. The truck’s twin turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 packs 550 horsepower and a monstrous 567 lb.-ft. of torque. Through an 8-speed automatic transmission and Porsche Traction Management (PTM) AWD system, this Cayenne will hit the ton in 4.1 seconds (3.9 seconds with the Sport Chrono Package) all the way to a top speed of 286 km/h.
Controlling this much power is handled by a vast number of magical “Porsche” things. PASM, or Porsche Active Suspension Management, works with a new three-chamber air suspension with the active shock-absorber system that handles off-road, on road and track duties just as easily. Then there’s Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC) roll stabilization, Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV+) and available rear-axle steering.
To top it all off, the new 2019 Porsche Cayenne Turbo features active aerodynamics including roof spoiler and some seriously high-performance brakes lodged behind gorgeous 21” wheels. The cabin is fully revamped as well with a mix of sportiness, comfort and technology.
The 2019 Porsche Cayenne Turbo arrives in the summer of 2018 with a starting price $139,700.
