Four tricks to get your vehicle ready for winter

Winter is coming. We know it just by stepping outside in the morning. Soon, snow will blanket the roads and ice will creep up when we least expect it. That’s a reality that people in Canada have had to face for a very long time.

Although most of us are used to driving in winter, and we know how to do it mainly by slowing down and taking our time when the road is covered, there are still a few tips and tricks to look into as we near the beginning of winter.

Winter tires

Winter tires are the most effective tool for staying safe on snowy, icy roads. They are the only contact point between your vehicle and the road, and they are basically the only way your vehicle can remain stable when driving in difficult conditions.

Therefore, before winter comes around, make sure you have a quality set of winter tires.

Maintenance

Winter takes a toll on our vehicles. It is therefore important that we make sure our car or SUV is in good mechanical condition before winter rolls around. Make sure you book an appointment with your dealership in order to get your oil change and your vehicle serviced.

Fluids

As mentioned above, your oil needs to be check before winter. You also want to check your other fluids including your brakes and transmission fluids. Moreover, it’s always a good idea to make sure you have extra windshield washer fluid in the vehicle to ensure your windshield is always clean.

Survival kit

You never know when you will be stranded in winter. Therefore, you should always carry a shovel, salt, booster cables, an extra pair of mittens, warm clothing, and a hat with you at all times.
