Advice for driving in fall conditions

If you’ve been driving in Canada for a while, you know how important it is to adapt your driving behavior to changing road conditions associated with winter. That said, preparations for winter driving start way before the first snow storm, and even in fall you have to slow down and adapt as changing weather conditions have already begun to make the roads a little more slippery.

Here are a few tips for driving safely in fall.

Slow down when you see leaves

Leaves can make the road as slippery as ice and snow, but unlike in winter where winter tires can help you get the traction you need, there aren’t any tires that can really grip a leaf. So, when you see leaves on the road ahead, it is best to slow down.

Make sure you have sunglasses

The sun in fall is brighter, and it sets earlier. That means that on your commute back home, it may very well be directly in your eyes. Therefore, always have a pair of sunglasses nearby to make sure you are not blinded as you sit in traffic.

The weather is changing

You have probably noticed that mornings are a lot cooler than they were a few weeks ago. This will only get worse as the weeks go on, so remember that when you leave for work, the roads may be icy, and if you do not yet have your winter tires, you could be in for a surprise.
