How to improve fuel-efficiency in winter

We all want to reduce our fuel consumption. Firstly because gasoline, although prices have stabilized, remains rather expensive and secondly, because we want to do our part for the environment.

That said, in winter, the cold combined with difficult road conditions means that our fuel consumption increases. The good news is that by following these tips, you will be able to reduce your consumption to a slightly more acceptable level.

First tip, you must avoid running the engine unnecessarily. This seems logical, but many are unaware of how only a few minutes spent with the engine running and the car stop can have adverse consequences on fuel economy.

Subsequently, it is always good to combine winter travel. In other words, if we have several places we need to go, it will be more economical to do everything at the same time in order to drive longer with an engine that has reached its optimum operating temperature.

Finally, remove as much weight as possible from the vehicle, as well as anything that increases your drag coefficient. To do this, try and minimize the number of accessories that are installed on your vehicle. For example, remove roof racks, roof boxes, the ski rack and so on that add weight in addition to increasing the drag coefficient and ultimately reduced fuel efficiency. Also remove the greatest possible number of things you do not use on a regular basis from your trunk, for example hockey equipment or tools, which make your vehicle heavier.

Finally, try to slow down in winter. This will help improve overall safety as well, and make things a little easier on your engine.
